The Garland Family and The Daisy Garland Charity
The Daisy Garland Charity was started in 2004 after the death of Daisy Garland from SUDEP(sudden unexpected death in epilepsy patients). Sadly Daisy was only six years old when she died. Her parents Sara & David Garland found that nothing helped or came close to helping until in January 2000 they discovered the Ketogenic Diet, a drug-free treatment which gradually reduced the frequency and severity of Daisy’s seizures.
In the UK there are over 60,000 children under the age of 16 suffering from epilepsy, and a large number of these children have drug resistant epilepsy. The Ketogenic Diet can dramatically recue the severity of all types of seizures, but, due to a lack of NHS funding, this diet is not widely available in the United Kingdom.
The Daisy Garland charity has been funding specialist dieticians since 2006. Their dieticians work within the NHS system initiating and monitoring the Ketogenic Diet. They have placed dieticians in London (Tooting), Nottingham, Plymouth and Bristol.
The aim of the Daisy Garland Charity is
- To raise awareness about childhood epilepsy
- Fund specially trained dieticians to work within the NHS country-wide, allowing other children like Daisy to benefit from this drug-free treatment
- To provide active support for parents/carers of children diagnosed with epilepsy.
The Little Girl behind the Charity In 1998, Daisy, our only child at that time, was diagnosed with a rare and complex form of epilepsy - Severe Myoclonic Epilepsy. She was just five and a half months old. Tragically, our darling girl died as a result of SUDEP (sudden and unexpected death in epilepsy patients), just three days after her 6th birthday. From the early hours of 14th April 2004, our world was turned completely upside down, our lives changed forever
Where do we go from here? In our minds, we had no option but to turn such a hugely devastating tragedy into something positive to help other children like Daisy.

The Daisy Garland Charity The Daisy Garland Charity was set up in November 2004 to keep Daisy's memory 'alive' and to help other little children like her. We have a small number of volunteers dotted around the country who kindly fundraise,
Aydenne Simone wants to support The Daisy Garland charity as much as possible, not only by allowing them to collect donations during the interval following a personal announcement by Aydenne, but also on the way out of the event, and by donating £1.00 for every CD sold.
We also would like to raise money for The Daisy Garland charity moving forward and would welcome ideas from the public as to how we can combine jazz or music to assist them raising funds. If you can do a sponsored walk or run, a cake sale, or you can assist us put on a ‘jazzathon’ , all ideas are welcome. Please contact Aydenne direct on 07812 431603.

Hi Aydenne
Thoroughly enjoyed the performance Friday night. You have a great voice and really know how to put a song across. Great reaction with the audience.
Thanks so much for letting us attend, we took £66 but just as important is the awareness events like that can generate. A number of people said they had heard of the ‘Daisy Garland’ but did not know what they did.
Hope you are fully recovered from your cold and good luck with your do in Sydenham.
Will contact you when I return from France.
Best Wishes
Cyril
